Research background

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide developed by Novo Nordisk in the late 1990s as a selective agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor — the same receptor targeted by the hormone ghrelin. In preclinical studies, it triggers pulsatile growth hormone release from the pituitary that closely mirrors the body's natural secretion pattern, while showing minimal effect on cortisol, prolactin, or ACTH — a selectivity profile that distinguished it from earlier-generation GH-releasing peptides like GHRP-6.
